  • Condition: vintage condition. a students tool so there are drawings and markings on the wood. Slate and glass are both in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Scale parts look good, appears to be all there, can't say for certain. The door slides up and can be removed, it does not stay up by itself. The brass has some oxidation. Being sold as it it with no guarantees of its accuracy. It is mostly being sold for a part of history.

    Description

    Ok, I have been looking this item up for 2 days and here is what I have come up with and where you can go for instructions or help with this item.  I bought it at an Auction, it wasn't cheap, but I wanted it because it is cool and very much a part of our history especially education wise.  This is a balance scale, some other names for it  are: Assayer Scale, Apothecary Scale, Scientific / Chemistry Scale.  I believe this is a Student Analytical Balance Scale.  It is made by Voland & Sons, in 1926.  There is a sign inside the scale that is written: Voland & Sons, New Rochelle, NY, Made for Central Scientific Co.  This one that I have is in good condition however, it has been written on by what looks to be a child.  I took photos of that.  The glass door slides up and can be removed.  It does not stay up on it's own.  All the glass is solid, no chips, or cracks.  The floor of the scale is slate.   Other materials in this scale are aluminum, brass and mahogany wood.  I have attached a picture from humboldt.edu  with description of one of theirs in the museum.  This is also where you can learn about this scale and those alike.  The number on this one is 37834.  I do not have any weights.  Selling as it is, I have not cleaned it up.  Vintage aging but also very good condition for the age.   Measurements:  16.25" x 17" x 8.25"   Not accepting returns, but please if there is a problem, contact us immediately and we will work something out.
