Antique French Beranger Balance Scale and Set of Weights

Description

A lovely antique French Mercantile Balance Scale made c.1870 in Lyon France by Maison Beranger.  It has a beautiful marble top and is in very good condition for age. It includes weights. The 7 weight set includes: 3 lb, 2 lb, 1 lb, 8 oz, 4 oz, 2 oz and 1 oz.

Bulletin de la Societe Metrique de France,
this model is characteristic of those made in about 1870 in Lyon France. The historical location of the factory is marked by the street name Rue Beranger, running alongside the main train station, Lyon Part-Dieu.
This is a c
losed-box pendulum balance, with a white marble top over a wood box painted ebony black.  On the front panel there is a slightly oval bezel surrounded by a decoration showing a strap with a buckle with its pin, marked "USINES DE LA MULATIERE", "ANE
MAISON BERANGER ", with a crowned star (type M6) underlined with" LYON ", and on each side of the weight-indicating arrows are the words PORTEE  8 KIL " (measures up to 8 kilograms)
